General safety guidance for a concept demo. If anyone is in danger, or you smell gas, leave and call your local emergency number.
Learn this before you need it
Find your shut-off valve
Look where the water line enters the home: a basement wall, utility closet, garage or crawl space, usually near the water meter.
A lever handle: turn it a quarter turn so it sits across the pipe.
A round wheel handle: turn it clockwise until it stops.
Open the cabinet under the fixture. Two small oval or round stops sit on the supply lines, one hot and one cold.
Turn each clockwise until snug.
Open the tap to confirm the flow stops.
Look low on the wall behind the toilet, or on the floor beside the base. A small oval stop feeds the tank.
Turn it clockwise, then flush once to drain the tank.
The cold-water inlet sits on top of the heater. Close that valve to stop refilling a leaking tank.
Do not touch the pressure relief valve or its pipe.
If it is a gas unit and you smell gas, leave the home.
Open. Lever runs along the pipe.

How quotes work
No number until we've looked.
This concept shows no prices on purpose. A real site would publish the contractor's own service-call terms. The approach is the promise:
You describe it
Photos and a few answers tell us what to bring.
We diagnose
A technician finds the cause before recommending anything.
You see the price
A written scope and total, with options where they exist.
You decide
Work starts only after you approve. Declining is fine.

Water heaters
Tank or tankless?
Tank
How it works
Heats and stores a full tank, ready to use.
Upfront
Usually the lower purchase and install cost.
Hot water
Can run out during heavy use, then needs recovery time.
Space
Needs floor space for the tank.
Fits when
You want a simple swap and a modest budget.
Tankless
How it works
Heats water on demand as it flows through.
Upfront
Usually higher, and may need gas line or electrical upgrades.
Hot water
Steady supply, limited by how many outlets run at once.
Space
Compact and wall-mounted.
Fits when
You plan to stay long-term and want endless hot water.
Not sure? Choose what matters most above. A technician confirms sizing, venting and power before quoting.
Before and after
Drag the wall open.
Left: a corroded, weeping supply joint.
Right: a new section with fresh fittings and a dry wall.

A real build would list actual towns and ZIP codes. This sample shows how zones and response expectations could read.
Questions
Do you charge to come look?
A real contractor sets its own diagnostic terms. In this concept the terms are stated up front, before booking, and applied to the work if you proceed.
What if it's after hours?
The triage above gives safe first steps immediately. A real site would show the emergency line and its true hours here.
Can I get a quote from photos?
For planned work like fixtures or a heater swap, yes. Photos of the unit, its label and the surrounding space speed up an accurate written quote.
Is this a real company?
No. Copperline Plumbing Co. is a fictional concept created by Fieldwork Five to demonstrate a website approach. Nothing here is an offer of service.
